VHS-C technology has been a solid choice over the years for its unfussy nature--it can be easily hooked up to almost all televisions and VCRs and is an inexpensive option for those in need of video. The Panasonic PV-L552 also features a huge 4-inch color LCD, color viewfinder, 26x optical zoom, and a high-performance, two-hour battery.
Lens There is an optical zoom magnification of 26x along with a 780x digital zoom, which works by electronically enhancing the optical image. There are four different zoom speeds for greater control, so you can zoom from full wide to full telephoto in 2 to 16 seconds. The digital image stabilization system keeps the picture steady and solid throughout zooms and camera shakes.
Inputs and Outputs The standard RCA input/output and cable is included so you can hook the camcorder to a TV for convenient viewing or to a VCR for dubbing to regular VHS.
We almost bought the PCV-L552 for its big view finder and 27x optical zoom, but after a lot of digging on obscure web sites, we found this older camera suffers from a dew detector light that goes off too easily, shutting down camera for hours. The PV-L424 just came out in 2004.
