It is made of steel tube constructed for extra heavy duty use; black enamel finish with plastic tips on the legs to prevent movement. It is a portable design for both studio, outdoor and all occasions, the background support system is easy to install and uninstall for professional photographer's convenience. The crossbar can extend to 12ft wide. The kit includes: Single Crossbar Background support System with carrying bag. 2 Background Stands extend to 9' height Crossbar : extends to 12' wide Weight: 30 pounds I just received mine today. I have to wonder if those of us who ordered this stand haven't all got different stands. I didn't get any clips with mine like one reviewer mentioned, and my crossbars didn't require an Allen wrench to put together. I've owned four different backdrop stands now; a Bogen Manfrotto Autopole, a portable Amvona stand (by far my fav but no longer made), an ePhoto stand (complete crap) and this one. Here is my review: 1. The light stands are HEAVY. Remember this one thing if that's all you remember. They are not meant to be casually thrown over your shoulder and moved around location to location. Personally I *love* this feature, because after the flimsy stand I received from ePhoto, this feels nice and sturdy, and like it won't tip easily even when loaded. 2. The stands do not say "Britek". It is stamped with the name "TrimAx". I don't know if this is a division of Britek or what, but I thought it was a little odd. A Google of "TrimAx" didn't reveal anything remotely related to photography, but whatever. They are also not air-cushioned, which means that when you are lowering these monstrosities you'd do well to remove your backdrop first or you're going to play roulette with your fingers. If you use paper I recommend loosening the bolts and then running away quickly. 3. The bag is crap. Mine arrived dotted with holes even though there was no packaging damage, and it's a thin and flimsy nylon. It's just a bag with no inner compartments or pockets to hold the bars separate from the stands. I will probably purchase a different bag because I do not want the pieces clinking and clanking together. It also does not say Britek or look like the bag in the photo. Disappointing to say the least because I've had Britek gear bags and they're fairly nice. The zipper was ok. Yay for ok zippers! 4. The crossbars are fine. You get two crossbars in the box. One of them has an inner telescoping piece to extend the length. The endcaps screw in/out to go over the adapters on the stands. They click into place with those little nipple-shaped metal buttons. I hate those things. The hurt like the dickens when you try to take them apart. Boo. Still, they are nice and sturdy, not flimsy at all despite their small diameter, and feel like they will hold their weight in muslin or paper or whathaveyou. 5. Beware...the stands are greased up like they just emerged from an Exxon oil spill. This is just an FYI, because there's nothing I like better than stinky, yellow grease all over my hands. You may not feel the same way. All in all I did give this product four stars, because the stands truly are amazingly strong, and who can beat free shipping to Hawaii? Nothing ever comes free to Hawaii. I mean NOTHING. I'm happy with it, will keep it. May or may not order it again should this one fall over dead.
