I tried surfing with the wrist strap that comes with the D10, and it just did not work out very well. I really needed a strap that wrapped around my chest so that I could free up my hands, and at the same time secure my camera. I broke down and purchased this kit (somewhere else cheaper) because I really needed a solution. Let me say that the quality of the rope attachments are very good. They are extremely strong and can take a lot of abuse from scraping and being submerged in water. I mostly use the strap with the small carabiner on it because you can adjust the length. It is also nice to be able to attach the ends of the rope to any corner of the camera, making it more comfortable to wear. Now when I am out surfing or snorkeling, I am able to wrap it around my chest, adjust it so its snug, and I am on my way. I have used it successfully in this manner for months, and really happy with this setup. I wish they would really lower the price on this kit, because every Canon D10 owner should have one. There is no way ropes or faceplates cost this much to manufacturer. So come on Canon, stop gouging people.
