Product Description
The Canon PIXMA iP4000R Photo Printer delivers high speed, superb quality and the ultimate freedom of wireless printing. Conforming to the IEEE 802.11g wireless (WiFi) standard, it can receive wireless transmissions within a range of up to 164 feet. Now, you can print a photo or report from your patio to your den, or from your kitchen to your home office - no wires required! Plus, with direct photo printing, just connect any PictBridge compatible digital camera or DV camcorder, and print. You can even produce edge-to-edge true borderless photos in 4 x 6, 5 x 7 and 8.5 x 11 in. sizes, with the look and feel of traditional photographs. The ContrastPLUS 5-color ink system - four dye-based inks plus a pigment-based black ink - produces true-life photos along with laser-quality text. To achieve a high resolution of up to 4800 x 1200 color dpi, Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses a high-performance 1, 856-nozzle print head that ejects precise, consistent droplets as small as 2 picoliters. Need speed? You can blaze through document printing at up to 25 ppm in black and up to 17 ppm in color, and a beautiful 4" x 6" borderless photo takes only 36 seconds.
I tried this printer hoping it would allow me to share a printer for use by a combination of macs and XP machines. I've tried hanging a printer off one machine and then sharing it, but kept having issues when crossing OS platforms (XP to Mac, or vice versa). Well, the integrated print server in the IP4000R did the trick. It works great with Macs under OSX and with my XP machines. The printer can either plug right into the network if you are wired for Ethernet, or it can be accessible over WiFi. Select any machine (XP or Mac) to configure using the included USB cable and CD. After setting up the printer over the cable, just unplug it and you are ready to connect over your network from other machines by installing the driver off the CD. I run a combination of wireless and wired, and it works great (in my case I elected to use a wired connection to the printer since there was a jack in the right location) with all machines.
