Convenience and Versatility The iP6310D is a six-color photo printer that features Canon's ChromaLife100 ink system. Convenient and versatile, the iP31D supports a number of direct photo printing capabilities including select memory cards, digital cameras, DV camcorders, camera phones and other PictBridge ready devices. It also offers a maximum of 4800 by 1200 dots per inch (dpi) resolution with microscopic ink droplets as small as two picoliters. In fact, it can create a borderless 4 x 6 inch photo lab quality print in approximately a minute, as well as other popular sizes, from wallet to 8.5 x 11 inch size prints. The iP6310D also delivers fast print speeds of up to 60 seconds for 4 x 6 borderless photos and less than two minutes for 8 x 10 inch photos.
ChromaLife100 Technology For Image Permanence The iP6310D uses Canon's ChromaLife100 system, including FINE print head technology for great photo printing. When using select genuine Canon photo papers and inks, prints can resist fading for up to 100 years when stored in an archival quality photo album. The 100-year-lifespan rivals that of many traditional film based photos, long considered by consumers to be the benchmark for image permanence. Prints produced on Canon Photo Paper Pro with ChromaLife100 inks also have an up to 10-year gas fastness when exposed to open air. In addition, ChromaLife100 prints, when created using Canon Photo Paper Pro or Photo Paper Plus Glossy, have up to a 30-year light fastness when displayed under glass.

This is an excellent all-around printer for those who aren't too demanding in their choice of quality printers. It's perfect for the average family person who just needs the convenience and ease of printing what was shot with the digital camera over the weekend. Don't get me wrong - the output of the final results are quite impressive (especially now that it's under $60), but for those who have a more demanding eye for perfection and need more 'professional' results, this may not be the printer for you. For instance, I was originally going to purchase the new iP6700D which is touted as an ideal printer for the digital SLR user, with higher resolution and number of nozzles compared to the iP6310D. However, if you don't want the hassle of changing and maintaining 6 individual ink tanks at approximately $14 apiece, this iP6310D is probably the route you want to take, as it only has two inkjet tanks (approx $25 apiece) to worry about, yet has the 6 colors (3 grouped in each tank) like some of the more costly models. Overall, I'm really satisfied with this printer, especially for the price, and the quality of the printed product. My only tip is, use the "Vivid Photo" option under printer settings to get more vibrant color.
