As a photographer with 35+ years in the field, you learn to respect a few names in this industry. Vivitar happens to be one of the few, not the many. I try to teach new photographers how to save money, and, when logically feasible, buy equipment at the lowest prices they can. I use Canon cameras exclusively. This, however, does not demand I buy all Canon products. Many companies provide equal and superior products to the HIGH priced items. Photography doesn't have to cost a fortune. Vivitar's flash has helped me obtain a great product at a far lower price. The savings are even greater when you buy the NiMH batteries and charger/flash kit. All of these items have a permanent home in my camera bags. As a Strobist Photographer, (as well as On Location), I'll need more flashes as I increase my experimentation into other sections of photography. Why would I pay $400.00+ for a flash that works the same as the Vivitar? If you want to save money and buy a product with a company that has been around for years, buy this flash, it's e-ttl dedicated and works great.
